good time for a funny green screen story - one idiot we used decided to "green screen" a monitor we were shooting by putting a green piece of paper over the screen, that may have worked except it wasn't exactly fitted to the screen - thanks people!
I have a story almost as bad/good.
Client used a rear projection screen with a blue gel over a white projection light as the "blue screen." It was nowhere near uniform or flat. It had a hot spot in the center that was near white, and the edges were much darker and more blue.
Believe it or not, the guy who dreamt this up was a very experienced TV/event director. They were on-site at an event with big rear screens in place, and this was some last minute "brilliant idea."
As it turns out, the Ae Difference Matte was a life-saver, and the only effect that gave me good results. I was able to piece together a clean plate. I had to do some minor mask tracking, but that project could have been a disaster.
Happy ending.
