we are going to release a new tool called CINEWARE proxy soon.
Its not hardware acceleration, but it allows you to switch back and forth between the live effect and rendered proxies. Hence, you can switch to rendered files whenever you feel the live pipeline is too slow to be creative but are also free to go back when you need to modify something on the C4D scene.

I haven't figured that one out yet. My current workflow has been to render separate elements (not multi-pass) from C4D for the ultimate in flexibility down the road. I might try the new AE integration on a smaller project and see how I like it using object buffers. I wish it were possible to have some kind of hardware acceleration in AE for the Cineware effect. Seems a tad slow.
