Lachlan, have you turned on Refine matte in the rotobrush options and played with the settings? Even in CS6, refine matte's motion blur compensation and edge decontamination is very good with some smoothing and feathering. It has saved many "impossible" shots for me.
I’m certain someone has had a more challenging roto job than the one on which I’m working... But not by much.
Four people waving their hands/arms... And often across their own faces/bodies etc... Need I say more...
Thankfully Rotobrush has done a GREAT job on the simple-medium stuff. This has saved me hours, if not days.
The last challenge that I have is the hair of a girl in the wind. I cannot hand-roto this, I have to find a way to make some kind of matte to catch the edges.
The hair goes from brown to blonde and the background is predominantly gray/neutral. This is the only hope I have of finding some difference between the fore- and back-grounds.
Can anyone suggest a technique and combo of plug-ins? I’m sure many of you here have fought this battle before.
