I'm taking a look and I don't believe that is possible. activeItem is read only and there are no menu commands that you could cheat by using the app.executeCommand() method, nor can you set mouse or keyboard events outside of your own ScriptUI panel/window. I think this is one for the feature request machine.

Subject: [AE] Open Comp in script
Hi, I have a script that duplicates the current comp, then does a bunch of stuff.
I can't get the new comp to open via the script.
I want the new comp to be the current timeline.
Any ideas?
Cheers.
Phil
