| Todd,
Thanks for listening. I'll be running some tests over the coming week, to try to suss a better theory of what's causing this.
I found some corrupt files on my drive, and that's been known to bring Pr and Ae to a halt before.
And I'm seeing a 300 - 500+ GB VM size on my Activity Monitor, and that seems outrageously high. Disk swaps of that magnitude are bound to present plenty of beach balls.
I need a more scientific, repeatable theory as to what the real culprit is.
And I'll be happy to share any information that I can bring to light.

We aren't ignoring this. Thanks for having the conversation with yourself out loud here so that we can see/hear it.
We're about to start a week-long shutdown, so it's unlikely that anyone will be contacting you this coming week, but we'll be in touch soon after that.

I know this looks like I'm having a conversation with myself, but this AJA Adobe plug for CC situation has gotten worse than ever.
After restoring the plug-in, and achieving satisfaction for a few hours yesterday, my ENTIRE COMPUTER became very sluggish and unresponsive. I could move the mouse, but I couldn't do anything in Ae CC. Switching to other apps was slow, and they were very sluggish. I thought I had an OS problem.
I forced my computer to reboot with the power switch, and the computer then functioned OK.
I deleted the AJA Adobe plug-in before launching Ae CC, and was able to finish my work.
That plug in for Ae is bad news. It does continue to work OK in Pr, though.
I'm still not sure if Ae or the AJA plug-in is the problem, but the fact it works great in Pr tends to steer me in the direction of Ae.
Would be interested to hear experiences from other AJA or even BMD users with Ae CC and external i/o cards or devices.

That way, I can quit Pr, open the prefs folder, trash the prefs, unzip the "clean modified" prefs, and relaunch Pr. I do lose the Recent Items, but that's a small price to pay.
