Is this current information? Things improved a lot in the most recent version.

No, this is from guys who've been using CS5.  I haven't checked out the latest changes either, as I haven't worked on a project that uses EXRs since using CS5.

I do recall having issues with trying to frame-blend an EXR sequence, because I think I had to pre-render it out as a tiff sequence first and then re-import it to make it work properly.  I recall some emails from Brendan regarding the issue (and disagreeing with me), so maybe I'm wrong and you can frame-blend an EXR sequence, but that was something I found annoying in CS5.  I might have been doing it wrong.

The main complaint my co-workers have is to do with cropping, but here are some comments from the Nukers:

* the exr import doesn't respect the bounding box information and centre point.
* there is a problem with gamma when importing into non linear projects (but I'll have to do some testing again, may have been fixed)
* would be GREAT if multi-channel support was better. Rather than opening up a separate dialog box, access to the channels in the effects windows would be nice (eg. via a drop down menu)
* and have all the controls accessible via expressions...

It's the bounding box thing that causes daily grief though, I assume it's because that's how they get lots of stuff from Maya and they're used to it just working.

HTH.

Sorry to hijack the original thread, but EXRs are a cross-platform, multi-bit depth, compressible, alpha-supporting format and apart from the fact they're not a playable movie file they're pretty awesome.

Here are details of improved OpenEXR and DPX importers in After
