Hi Søren,

I do almost all of my fulldome work in After Effects, from beginning to end - I use a different dome plugin than that one, but that's the most commonly used one and yes, it's practically essential to have that kind of tool to bend images for the curved screen.

I'm not sure if this is a limitation with the plugin you're looking at, but the one I use only takes position input in polar coordinates… which makes it hard to fly objects around in anything other than spirals. I have some expressions to convert a null object's cartesian coordinates to polar. I have also had some success making a 5-camera rig in AE, allowing me to do things like scrolling credits and flying through Trapcode Particular generated scenes.

If you don't already have the ladybug, also look at http://dome3d.com, which sells rigs of 5 or 6 GoPro video cameras for stitching into fulldome format.  The final resolution is comparable. (Disclosure, I don't work for them, don't own their rig or a ladybug for that matter. But I know the guys there, and they are experienced fulldome people.)

Something else to think about - will you have access to a dome you can test footage on?

Also, consider joining the Fulldome mailing list at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fulldome/, and feel free to contact me off-list.

Dear all

We have been asked to do some full dome work.
I have been googling around finding info to decide on the workflow for after effects.
We mainly have to do animation only but also do some titling of live action shot with the ladybug3 camera as well.

For those who have been doing dome stuff before, what are your favourite workflow?
And is the  fulldome plugin (http://software.multimeios.pt/fulldome/) worth the price?

Thanks in advance
Søren
