To answer your question about the animation: Some puppet and some multiple
frames, no IK.
You are right about the length. I wanted to only show videos from 2013, I had about 5 projects so far for this reel and not a huge amount of footage to use. I tried my best to cut down to 1 min 20 or so, I started off with 4+ minutes but even after editing most bits down to 1-2 sec I struggled to get it less than 2 minutes or remove more bits. I will ensure my next reel is shorter when I have more to select from. I was thinking that perhaps people in general will only visit my portfolio
website for 1 - 2 minutes and perhaps only watch 1 video, so I figured if they
only watch the reel, it wouldn’t hurt if it’s a little longer and they will get
my style and what I do.
I’m glad you like my style. What perhaps makes me a bit different is that I generally don’t do vector illustrations for my videos and I normally do everything myself, apart from the music and VO Thanks,

Information Hey, First off. No link in the last message.. I just went straight to your site and watched it on the front page. Http://sundstedt.co.uk for the lazy. Great work on the character animation. Liked it a lot. You using duik with puppet pins mostly? Also, Alt-J is always good. If I had one constructive criticism to give you, it might be that the reel is too long. It seems there's only focus on 3 of the 5 pieces of content you are showcasing in the reel, which, although there's plenty of animation to see from each, I might as well watch one of the actual videos to get all of that content. I would pare it down to maybe 1 minute of just your best stuff. Don't be afraid to not show everything. The reel should show off the summary of work, leaving me wanting to check out the other pieces, but I feel I might have seen all of one or two of them in there just spliced up and rearranged. Overall really good character animation, fun illustration style and good edit to the music track, etc. Thanks for sharing. I really need to get my updated reel made. I've got like 45 minutes of project footage to sift through since 2009. ///Greg Balint |
