Yes you should be fine as long as you meant cloning your current drive to the new one. Make sure your system drive can fit in size in your new SSD drive. For cloning I usually use SuperDuper but CC should work just fine as well.

Can I simply copy everything over between the two drives or should I clean install the OS onto the SSD first?  I know that in an ideal world you would re-install everything from scratch and it's a good opportunity to do a spring clean, but I really won't have time.  I'm not expecting any problems with doing a straight copy & replace so if anyone is aware of pitfalls then please let me know.
