me, personally, having done this a couple of times ?

You need a current OS. if you have a bootable OS installer disc so much =
the better. install SSD, boot from OS installer, install, update OS, =
install apps, be happy. Migration assistant will move what you really =
want from old OS install to new one. trying to do this otherwise is =
FUBAR. placing the old OS install into a USB case or docking base is =
fine to grab your old OS prefs / bits and go forwards with a more or =
less clean install.=20
