I've done this a few times without issue on work drives. I used Disk Utility. You have to make sure that your HHD partition is the same size or smaller than your new SSD to be able to copy across. For me, this meant backing up many non system files and folders onto another disk. Then with disk utility open you drag your source volume and destination volume to the relevant fields and hit go. I've had zero issues. I'm sure CCC will do a great job too, I just preferred to use the native solution.

As payment for an OT query I offer 2 handy keyboard shortcuts:

1) holding down the option key when pasting will paste at the current time.

2) When the main viewer window is selected, alt-double clicking on the hand icon will re-centre the viewer contents, which is very handy when comparing multiple compositions.
