There are a couple mocha techniques to deal with tracking totally obscured areas:
1. As Eric suggested, track up until the frame where it goes off, stop, move your shape to any area where the motion is similar to the motion of the plane you are tracking. Track those frames until your original object comes back to frame, stop and move search area back. The point here is that animating the search area does not throw off the surface.
2. Another method is to track until it goes off, them stop and skip the area where the track is obscured. Skip ahead to area where object reappears and pick up the track again. Next, enable manual surface which displaces ALL surface keyframes. Edit these to delete some unnecessary in betweens. You could alternately use AE for the keyframe adjustment.
Hope this helps. If you want to post the shot, we are happy to take a look. Best, Ross

Hello, I have a very difficult tracking shot of a car that gets completely obscured by a barrier for several frames during a tracking sequence, throwing off the mocha tracking data. This happens about six times during the shot. Now i could make make seven different tracking layers (ie a new layer between barriers each time) but this is tedious and makes syncing up the track data in ae very time consuming. Id prefer to do it all on one layer. Do I switch to a manual track during obstruction? Even adjusttrack cannot seem to compensate, as the entire object is obscured. Trying to track the barriers separately to exclude from the search area doesnt work very well either. Are there any tutorials about this? What would be the best way to approach this? Many thanks,
