I don't find it that inconvenient.  I rarely need to use it, and once you've discovered it, you know where it is for next time.

I'd rather the Adobe engineers spent their time figuring out how to have Precomps have a twirl down to see its contents… my number one feature request I've been wanting for years.

That setting should be somewhere more obvious. Also it should say more info than just gradients. This was an issue with placed files so I would not have guessed to check it had I found it.
