It was my impression that ProRes took less CPU power to encode and decode. I use 1080 422 and 422 HQ ProRes files in Keynote for playback – up to 60p – and have no trouble using an internal SSD with an earlier generation MacBook Pro. The signal goes out the Thunderbolt port using the DVI adapter. You should have no trouble playing through the HDMI or Thunderbolt port. If you have FCP 7 you can play back full screen on the second display using View > Video Playback > Desktop Preview – Full Screen. Your timeline on the primary display will give you complete control using markers and so on.

Check the refresh rate for the device you are sending to in the Displays Pref Panel. It should be 60 Hz. Anything less and the video may stutter.

I'm uncertain as to whether converting to SDI will get you better performance.

We've just bought a batch of the latest MacBook Pros, would they play 1080/60p on ProRes422 at full speed to the Thunderbolt port? Presumably 'Keynote' would allow me to present my animation collection as required?
Any thoughts from the vast experience on this Forum would be much appreciated!
