 I've been wracking my brain trying to get this to work. I need to create a "beam of data" shooting up in to the sky. The trick is that I need the text to spiral around the beam as though the beam is made, in part, by the text itself which could be up to 100 words. Adding to the complexity, I need it to be 3D as I will be compositing it on top of C4D renders. I know I can build it directly in C4D but I would love to be able to keep it live in AE instead.

 I know that I can create a circle and just have the text wrap around the path but I don't know how I would create a helix/spiral shape without creating the whole thing by hand. These columns are basically shooting up in to the sky so the paths themselves would be quite high (and a huge pain to try and make by hand).

 Has anyone been able to do this in AE?
