Subject: [AE] Levels vs Curves render = times

Hi all,

I was surprised by something a work = colleague encountered this week.  I
didn't see the project, but = I believe it was quite long, with many layers of
video in it.
When = he initially went to render it it looked like being a 48 hour render = (this
is after the render has been going for several hours). =  This was too long, and
he guessed that the many instances of = the curves plugin were slowing
everything down.  He stopped the = render and went through the project and
replaced all the curves = plugins with levels instead, to get the same effect.
Then the entire = project rendered in about 2 hours.
That's a massive difference in = speed - this is AE v5, so not something affected
by cache.
I can = understand that curves may be slightly slower to render than levels = -
but I would never have expected such a massive difference. =  And my
colleague is something of an AE guru and said he had = experienced this
before, and that he's always found curves to be a = slow plugin to render.  I'd
never really noticed...
Any = thoughts?
