Scalable UI, so I can make a really big curve if I need the precision.
Actual bezier curve!
Ability to make straight lines between points, not just auto-curves... you used to be able to shift-click with a pencil tool to draw straight lines, now it's much harder. (straight lines are useful for graphic effects like posterizing.)
Histogram display, toggle between source and result... Simultaneous display of red, green & blue channels as an option, so you can see how the channels differ.
I once contemplated designing a curves tool where the UI actually appeared in the comp window, so I was adjusting a giant curve right over the video. I thought it was a cool idea but not sure if this is worth exploring?
I'll post again if I think of more...

re-awakening a dormant thread:
If we were to spend time improving the Curves effect, what would be the changes that you'd want to see? Be as specific as possible, and list things in your priority order. Anything in the Curves effect is fair game for this conversation, including user interface, performance (as noted by Chris below), and additional features.

Subject: [AE] Levels vs Curves render times
Hi all,
I was surprised by something a work colleague encountered this week. I
didn't see the project, but I believe it was quite long, with many layers of
video in it.
When he initially went to render it it looked like being a 48 hour render (this
is after the render has been going for several hours). This was too long, and
he guessed that the many instances of the curves plugin were slowing
everything down. He stopped the render and went through the project and
replaced all the curves plugins with levels instead, to get the same effect.
Then the entire project rendered in about 2 hours.
That's a massive difference in speed - this is AE v5, so not something affected
by cache.
I can understand that curves may be slightly slower to render than levels -
but I would never have expected such a massive difference. And my
colleague is something of an AE guru and said he had experienced this
before, and that he's always found curves to be a slow plugin to render. I'd
never really noticed...
Any thoughts?
