Render time for that clip, with raytracing quality at 6 and cubic filtering, motion blur on was a little over 9 minutes on a GTX Titan

Thanks! here is the quasi-final version: https://vimeo.com/76907344

So they brought me a chart designed in powerpoint and asked me to animate it in 3d. I tell them great, get me the assets, so they have someone rebuild it in illustrator. When I get it, it's a complete disaster, poorly organized, hundreds of layers, fake 3d gradients, no layer groups etc. So I have to rebuild it completely in AE. Took me about two days.

It's all built within AE. Raytraced solids from extruded shapes, vector logos, lighting and camera rig, etc.  I needed to work entirely inside AE for a number of reasons, primarily speed. I would have loved to do it in C4D but I'm not as fast with keyframe timing, plus flipping between programs can be a headache. Render times being the third slower component. For quick raytracing AE renderer is very well optimized for my graphics card. I also have to say the CC timeline layer and grid snapping saved me hours of alignment headaches.

Did miss the part of the discussion where you talked about why the C4D connection doesn't work for this since you are in CC? This would be super simple to do from my short observation.

So most features like color correction, mattes and fx are not fully supported by the raytraced 3D engine. What is the workflow to add a glow to an extruded object for example? I'm hoping it's not something like creating a matte for each individual object and exporting it separately, then reimporting it into a standard 3D comp. I could render every element separately for compositing but that's hours of work I don't have. I haven't used the RT engine much, so I'm hoping there's an easier solution. I could fake a glow with physical lights but then my render times go up.
