The basic procedure is: 1. Connect the clone drive to the machine - USB3 is fine or internal. 2. Check both drives for errors 3. Clone the drive - software will handle drive size etc. For boot drive clone entire drive, not just partitions. You want any hidden/system partitions to be cloned as well 4. Plug the new drive into the same spot and/or change the boot priority/order in the BIOS to insure the new drive boots up, not your old drive. 5. Windows drive imaging in not the best for that.
