If you can stabilize your shot around an area that has flicker, this method works very well.

- Create a composition called "average luma". You could make it in a lower resolution to save render time. Drop in your plate and duplicate it. On the bottom layer, freeze frame at a frame where you have no flicker (or as little as possible). Apply a blur to both layers and crank up blurriness a lot. Set the blending mode of the top layer to "Divide".
- Create a composition called "flicker removal". Drop in your plate at the bottom and the average luma composition on top, scale it to composition size, and set the blending mode to "Multiply".
- Flicker removed.

So if you need to stabilize around an area, you would probably want to crop the plate around that area and use that to average the luminance. It important that you linearize your footage and that you work in 32bpc.

Cheers,
Simon

See attached example.

I have this plugin:

It's decent but not what I would call state of the art.

A film is - or should be - more like music than like fiction. It should be a
progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what's behind the emotion, the
meaning, all that comes later.

Subject: [AE] Camera flicker

High speed video shooting has now become pretty mundane. Sony has just
released an update to its F5/55 camera that offers 240fps. As a result of
seeing some quick & dirty tests I am triggered to ask what is the best
flicker reduction AE plug that members have encountered? As a minimum it has
to offer the ability to track both moving scenes and differing flicker areas
within the shot.
