If you need more specific placement (in a grid, sphere, cylinder, spiral, line,...)
you can also do it with layer placement iExpressions:

They make it also easy to transition from random positions into such shapes or add some wiggle to the placement.

For simple random placement in a specific range, there is the
http://mamoworld.com/after-effects-expression/distribute-3d-random
which should do something similar to the 3D Layer Distributor, just with an expression instead of a script.

Hi there,

I've got a scene which will have about 40-60 logos that I'll need to have the camera fly through. Normally I do this kind of thing using Trapcode particular but I have this feeling that the randomness usually generated using this method will be a problem with this client (I.E. repeating logo possiblity). I was wondering if there was a script out there that would take bunch of layers and distribute them through 3D space. Something that takes some of the work out of muscling those layers around. Anyone?
