Hi

Last week i did a small modification of an expression that Todd Kopriva had done some time ago to make an RGB readout in a text layer:

Well i thought it would be a fun little exercise to read up and learn some more on the expression syntax, and added some features to this expression:
- A slider to adjust the sample area
- A shape layer that acts as a bar graph of the sampled color making it much easier to analyze a colorcast.
- Support for overbights in 32bit, with a small indicator when a color clips
- switch between 2 different numerical value readout (0-255, or 0-1)

The workflow is as follows:
- make an adjustment layer
- any shape layer just above the adjustment layer
- any text layer above the shape layer
- apply the preset "RGB readout Control Layer" to the adjustment layer
- apply the preset "RGB(A) readout Bars" to the shapelayer
- apply the preset "RGB(A) readout Text" to the text layer

and use the controls on the adjustment layer to move the sample point and area.
There is a few options on the text and shape layer too.

Download here, along with a quick screenshot to visually demonstrate the setup:

Its not the most elegant solution and the workflow can easily break because it depends on 3 layers be just above eachother, but i thought it might be some use for someone on the AE-list, so i could just as well share.
It also have a few not so elegant features: the alpha is also area sampled like the color and that doesnt make that much sense if a large area is used. I couldnt figure out a nice way to have a checkbox for turning the alpha readout on and off, so there is a seperate preset for RGB and RGBA.

If you need mulitple color samples you just copy the 3 layers together, I actually had a good use for it today comparing coloradjustments :-)

Hope anyone also could find this useful... enjoy :-)

- Robert
