Based on the = explicit advice of an Apple Store employee, I bought an Apple = Thunderbolt display with the intention of using it temporarily on the = mini Display Port output of the video card in a current-gen Mac Pro, = with the idea of migrating it to a true Thunderboth-equipped laptop or = Mac Pro later. Because Apple says you can. (Even if you can't plug a mDP = display into the TB jack on the TB display - yes, I know that; that's = not what I'm doing here.)

I've tried it with = both the mini Display Port connectors on an ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5870, and = the Display Port connector on an NVIDIA Quadro 4000 (through a MDP to DP = adaptor), and neither work. The Mac - through remote screen sharing - = says no monitor is connected.

The monitor = itself works fine when plugged into a genuine Thunderbolt connector on = one of our laptops.

Is there a magic spell to = get this to work? Do I need to sacrifice a chicken or something? Or was = I lied to?
