What format are all of your images? I've found sometimes changing format makes it all work.
Also, make sure hyperthreading is turned off in your bios. You should have only 6 cores showing in your system.
I have almost the exact same setup as you, 980/ non-x and as would hang and use only one core because it couldn't figure out how to start the other processes on the other cores. I don't know what the deal was, but turning off hyperthreading made renders smooth and everything was good as gold again.

I've also seen a plug-in instance go haywire, and removing the plug, and re-applying it with the same settings fixes it. This has happened in Pr as well, and the fix is the same.
