What GPU exactly? The GT 650M?

If so, note that that GPU only has 1GB of VRAM, which is the bare minimum for After Effects to use the GPU-accelerated ray-traced renderer.

Make sure that you don't have any other applications running (including web browsers, which use GPU memory more than you'd think) when you start After Effects.
