It is not an efficient algorithm but for long image and large image sequences, any lossless saving is good, so I tend to have it on. It does occasionally cause some app support issues outside of AE. And really annoying that Premiere won't turn it on. In general Premiere's IO especially for 16-bit and higher is a no-show anyway.
