ah - spoke too soon. finally googled up a link that tells me cs5 is kind of the swiss army knife version that should be able to open that old crusty ae6 project and then I can escalate it up from there. you just have to "import" the proj instead of "opening" it

i think I can find a computer in the shop with cs5, so should be good!

New class is CS6 based. How best to convert these projects? I can rebuild them to an extent but some of them have tedious masking and tracking in there.

I might be able to revive an old laptop that might have AE 7. Which can probably open a 6.0 file - but how to scale that on up to CS6 seems like it would take all of the in-between versions.

Is it a lost cause?
