Thanks all I think this will work - and thanks croebot for putting together a quick project (probably easier than typing out an explanation) and Brian I can honestly say in 18 1/2 years I've never used vector blur, but it worked great, I'll have to look in using it when smoothing out edges (perpendicular)

Tim, this should get you going. You'll have to figure out how to smooth the edges is the only problem.

I seem to remember there was a tutorial out there and I thought median was used - can anyone point me in the right direction?
