Particular was my first thought as well. I just need to figure out how to arrange. Using a custom sprite i suppose to begin.

Track the camera with '3D Camera Tracker' then use Particular. If you need to have it bounce off a surface with a little slide track in a solid as your bounce surface.

I'm looking for ideas here. I have a shot where a guy is using a chain saw on a piece of wood, mostly out of frame but I need to create the wood chip particles that would be flying around. I would envision the wood chips sort of flying first up, then being taken back down through normal gravity.
