Over time and with experimentation I have found that (in general) there is no noticeable difference if you compress 720p at 3Mbps for upload and 1080p at 5Mbps for upload using Episode Pro or Compressor (I've not tested AME).
Last I checked YouTube was compressing at about 2Mbps internally for HD (Vimeo a bit more), but that may have changed. Todd do you know what the current YouTube specs are internally?
