Yes, Ross said it all.
In your example, you would need to track the finger that you want to get rid of and from the planes behind it at least one track for where the finger is in front of the girl and one where it is in front of the guy.
Where the hair is moving behind the finger, the automatic result will probably not be perfect. But then you can still create a stabilized precomp with MochaImport+ to fix the remaining 20% in AE.

Mathias

mocha Pro would use the background track tries to replace the selct foreground object with clean areas from the background (from other frames in time). Also employs some intelligence to matching the lighting, etc. This can be very successful if the background is non-organic and there is enough parallax camera movement. In cases where the foreground passes multiple "planes" each bg plane needs to be tracked on their own layer.

When the clean frame does not exist in the shot at all, the artist can feed the module clean, painted frames. These clean frames can be interpolated into the shot and even mixed with the auto removed frames.

There is a little learning curve, but I would suggest watching Mary Poplin's Remove Module tutorials that cover clean plates.

Mathias,

For you as well Ross,

Great!  I imagine you saw the file that I sent you earlier today then?  If so and let me describe for the group, this is a dude who got a couple fingers bitten off by a girl and they added the bloody prosthetic on his knuckles (middle knuckle) and then his fingers were simply folded inward but they show in a couple spots.

Would this help in removing those showing fingers and if so, what does it replace them with?  I mean, there's no plate to work with since that would be a part of his palm that is covered by the folded fingers.

Thanks,
Eric

Eric, my experience is that compared to manual removal with stabilized precomps (which I know you use quite often) the automatic approach with the remove module is in particular powerful in situations where the lighting changes over time, since mocha Pro adjusts your clean plates to these changes automatically.

Mathias

Yes - basically to remove foreground objects and create clean plates. It helps automate some of the manual clone, paint offset tasks that VFX artists often use.

Thanks Ross.

Without my bogging things down much on this subject, the remove module is?  Is that for object removal?

Hi Eric,
Yes, it is 50% off any nodelocked upgrade path. So, the upgrade from mocha AE v1-2 to mocha Pro is $347.50

The Remove Module alone should pay for itself in time savings.

Best,
Ross

Any special discount for those that purchased the mocha AE?

Hey folks,
Today is the final day of the annual holiday sale on mocha Pro. AE users can upgrade the bundled mocha AE (from CS4 all the way to CC) for 50% off.

I apologize for the marketing nature of this email. We always hear from frustrated users who missed the sale, so simply wanted to post to the community.

Cheers,
Ross
