| i see it as many of us have worked with or used apple products for decades and have a lot of time, energy and investment in them to see them suddenly seem to "forget" about you and that market segment is disappointing, frustrating and daunting as to what to do next. i'm all for apple having some nice top end eye candy machines, but it seems the whole middle is missing - you have consumer at one end and the overpriced boxes that are hard to put in a true production 24/7 environment. is downtime an issue? for many it is - i have a closet full of high end power supplies, spare ram, motherboards, video cards and drives - for the PC's i can have it back up and running in 5 to 30 minutes all myself for mac i have to have a spare mac around "just in case" - pull the HD from the dead one, pop it into either an external drive case or into a new machine and reboot to keep running. i've also had motherboards and boot drives go bad in a mac - bad drives are pretty easy, go to most recent clone or time machine, swap drive in and restore/reboot. power supplies and motherboards in macs are a time sink for a 24/7 need. one year on christmas morning a server mac pro power supply died - not a fun morning to get that sorted out and the server back running. and everyone was on vacation or in a non-working mood so it took like two weeks to really get it sorted out... so apple, the consumer market, great! the top tier foo-foo boxes that look great in your fancy exective office, sure whatever! enjoy! but i and others like me really need a Ford F-150 mac workstation, something priced in the middle with good to great performance options with parts that we can fix/swap on our own.
