Steven V. so far has given me the best = answer which was a technical comparison between the two as a main workstati= on. Thanks BTW Steven. You're welcome. It's mostly due to I just had a long conversation with my f= riend trying to decide to replace his maxxed out iMac. Platform wars don't = make for good friendships :) Buying the right hardware IMO is a matter of really understand your softwar= e usage, what components truly improve performance and the cost per perform= ance increase vs. effect on your bottom line as well as warranty support. Which I think points to the fact that single machine shops may be the niche= market for the new MacPro whereas shops with many more machines have to co= nsider warranty, support and ability to buy at discount issue. I suspect ma= ny will move to PCs simply due to those factors. Which brings up other points missing in previous posts. Dell, HP etc. typic= ally come standard or offer more comprehensive support with their systems i= ncluding 3 to 5 year warranties, next business day on-site repair (3 year = is standard) and more. Apple's service does not equal this even with Apple-= Care upgrade so that should be factored into comparisons. Additionally, Dell especially but others offer outlet stores. When I was a = corporate IT Manager I bought Dell Precisions only from the outlet - bought= dozens and never had issue. Same exact warranty and options available, and= often 20 to 50% off list prices. That is not an option with this MacPro. My current laptop is Dell Precision from an outlet reseller on eBay - got i= t new-in-box for 60% of list and Dell let me add to the warranty to-boot. For someone buying 1 machine, this may make no big difference, but for thos= e buying 5, 10, 50, it's huge. stephen van vuuren 336.202.4777 http://www.insaturnsrings.com/ http://www.sv2dcp.com/ http://www.sv2studios.com/ A film is - or should be - more like music than like fiction. It should be = a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what's behind the emotion, = the meaning, all that comes later. -Stanley Kubrick -----Original Message----- From: After Effects Mail List [mailto:AE-List@media-motion.tv] On Behalf Of= Robert Houghton Sent: Friday, December 20, 2013 3:21 PM To: After Effects Mail List Subject: Re: [AE] (OT) New Mac Pro - Who's getting it?
