Indeed.  And this is why I'd love to have a twirl down to reveal and have access to precomp layers.  My #1 Feature Request.

As the subject line says, I'm trying to add a track matte to a text layer in 3D space. For some reason this is not working for me. The matte layer is a basic solid with a mask applied. Tried both 2D and 3D matte. Seems a basic enough operation but clearly I'm missing something.
