I learned a long time ago that leaving your office to work for a client for anything less than a half-day rate was a sure way to lose money in business. It just cannot work out in the end.  Too much of a disruption to productivity in the overall picture.

I'd charge a minimum per day, for those times I had to drive in to make a fifteen minute change.  Whether it was a four hour or a one hour minimum depended on what I could get away with, frankly. =

That depends on the situation, Carey.  For example, I've worked on projects for a few days, and it goes to the review committee.  Client comes back and says they have "one little change."  So, that puts us in the position of playing hardball, and demanding half-day pay for 15 minutes work, or maintaining good client relations, and being reasonable.

If you play hardball, they might let their intern make the change, and put in control of your project at the final stage, and possibly screw it up by any number of ways.  That's why I say that it pays to be flexible.  It can be worth it to be generous every now and then, especially if you had nothing else booked for that final session.  You don't want to cut off your nose to spite your face.

But, I do agree with you as a general rule.
