And you might consider PCIe-attached solid state storage for the cache instead of a SATA SSD. It's startingly easy to saturate the SATA bus with any combination of large rasters, higher bit depths, and lots of layers.

A single 19,200 x 8640 buffer at only 8bpc is 632 MB -- or two second's worth of bandwidth for SATA 3Gb/s, or one second's worth of bandwidth on SATA 6Gb/s. You could cut that in half again or better with PCIe flash storage like the Fusion ioFX.
