Layer tools is one of my main go-to effects in AE. Useful for so much beyond the obvious.

I frequently use it to spread objects though z-space, then move a camera from back to front creating the popular layers-flying-together-to-land-in-predefined-shape effect. Takes only seconds to set up (but don't tell my clients that).

Here are three layer tool created excerpts from a corporate piece I delivered last week:

Hi Rachel,

If you have a picture that you'd like to do this type of effect to, Zaxwerks has a plug-in called Layer Tools that will take that picture's pieces and distribute those pieces in 3D space so they will come together only when viewed from one viewpoint.

Layer Tools automatically moves and resizes the pieces based on the camera's perspective and viewing angle so you can do this effect from literally anywhere in your 3D scene, not just when looking down the main Z axis.

Best,
Zax

So these seemingly random shapes in the room - some far from the camera, =
some closer - all make sense when the camera move into place.

Thanks!
Rachel
