Just tried your trick on a couple of .ppt files. A folder was extracted, but inside were the following for items. Each item has a blank white icon:
Current User DocumentSummaryInformation Pictures PowerPoint Document SummaryInformation
Any ideas?

Russ Copy the PowerPoint file. Change the .ppt suffix to .zip. Unzip it. Open the extracted the folder. You'll find a "ppt" folder, which contains a "media" folder. All the assets are in there. jpegs, audio...
