My experience with the built in 3d tracker in AE has been very mixed.

Using it on some hand held footage just to test it out it has worked ok good. But each time i wanted to use it on real projects it has failed to give me acceptable results, and have gone back to Syntheyes, that tracks way faster and more accurate, and the camera generated is much closer to the real camera move.

So my advice would be to try the built in first, but do have a backup plan to either purchase another 3dtracker (maybe the multi versatile Mocha Pro with the camera tracker would be better than standard AE even?) and learn the basics of that or hire a guy/girl with access to one to do the track for you.

Helle people,

I will start a exciting motion tracking assignment in a week.

The footage will be shot by a Drone. We will film a large open field where
there eventually be 3D buildings.

So some motion tracking and some 3D work.

Would the 3D camera tracker inside of AE be sufficient or should I try an other one?

And do I need tracker markers on the field?

I am new at this and every tip is very welcome.

Cheers,
Anthony
