Thanks guys.

Benny, the one tricky thing that I forgot about is that I had also separated X and Y on the ball so pick whipping wasn't an option. I know I could create an expression that would find the global position of the ball and use that as a value that I could pick whip something to but in the end using the screen cap of the ball (selected) was the quickest way for me to get the path. If I hadn't separated the XY values then I would have definitely gone the route you had suggested.

Andrew thanks for the tip about the motion path but I was actually referring to having it on screen even when the object isn't selected. It would obviously be messy if you had more than a few objects on screen but it would be great for tracing out motion paths.

Hey Sean,

You can change your "Display" settings for showing it's keyframed path here:

Edit -> Preferences -> Display

Once here, just click on the "All KeyFrames" radial button.

As Benny mentioned, I would simply just animate with 3D stroke to get the path of the object in question.

If you need any other help free feel to contact me off list. :)

Cheers.

Just in case someone jumps in with this one solution I figured I would go ahead and post that I just took a screen shot of my comp while the ball was selected and am going to drop that in to my comp and trace the shape path over it.

What makes it a bit more challenging is that I can only see the ball's animation path while it's selected which brings me to two questions.
