Put them all in the sequence.
Trim them to length.
Select all the layers.
Control-click and sequence layers with your length of dissolve.

If you select them from the top down the top layer is first.
 
If you select the bottom layer first it will be the first layer.

I'm placing a number of still images in a sequence and I'd like them to all be of same length and auto fade in and out. Is there a simple way to do that?  I'd like to be able to drop a high number of stills in to a comp and have them each be a specific length of say 3-4 seconds and fade in and out to one another.
