Considering how tightly integrated AE and C4D are becoming, it's starting to feel like they're owned by the same company as it is (and that being a good thing).

I thought it was a shame that Adobe never purchased SketchUp., even as a modeler for Photoshop and AE. Instead Google bought it, and then subsequently dumped it.

It's a great modeler (for simple things anyway).

-tho a bit of a shame that Adobe never acquired a 3d app of their own, ya know?

People said that is why AD originally bought SI - to keep it from Adobe.

I almost forgot it existed!
Can't recall the last time I read about it being used in any of the trade mags or online.

But makes perfect sense considering Autodesk has so many other 3d apps, and I'm sure they'll offer owners the opportunity to up/side-grade to Maya.

Great software, it will probably end up in Autodesk's basement somewhere, they have already stated they won't sell it off because it contains too many of their IPs or something. They just completed the LEGO movie using SI. It has a pretty fantastic node scripting language. I feel terrible for shops that built their whole pipelines on SI. Or plugin developers who wasted thousands. AD are pushing everyone to Max or Maya instead. For an interesting perspective there is a thread on cgsociety here

And probably not a coincidence, but a heads up if anyone was looking to upgrade, there is 10% off C4D upgrades at toolfarm this month, with added discount for your C4D lite licenses that come with AE CC. Not a shill, but it's good software, and definitely complements my Maya knowledge. People are saying they will jump ship to
C4D, Houdini, Modo or even Blender instead of staying with Autodesk.
