| the one thing i heard about and was sure to do was to turn off the “nap” feature on performance intensive apps
basically it is a system level low cpu state in most modern compiled apps
just GET INFO on the app and then there in the info box is a checkbox that says “prevent app nap”
that was the biggest thing i’ve noticed in complaints about poor performance and beach balls etc - but yes for sure take a look BEFOREHAND at your daily CRITICAL apps that are must work ones - and check the web sites for maverick compatible versions or updates before jumping into it.
like there were immediate adobe updates to fix maverick issues - i would think that most app vendors of programs would be pretty quick on fixes for maverick since that is on all new and shipping macs.

Whenever I hear stories like that I always wonder if it’s just some issues on a specific machine (those can happen to anyone) or if it’s more broad-based. I don’t know the answer, just asking the question.
I’ve been running Mavericks on MBP Retina with all Adobe stuff fine, but do keep an older mac pro back at 10.8.5 because it’s got legacy version software and plugins installed. Note: It is NOT a daily driver.

Rob,
I'm working at a place with 2 FCP suites, one on Mavericks and one on 10.8.5. The Mavericks one has severe problems with FCP and Red Cine. In a general sense it is unstable to the point of being unusable. As I'm not a FCP editor I can't describe the exact problems but basically the system just beachballs a lot, especially when dragging footage and folders around.
I don't know if it's just that one machine or if FCP in general is flaky on Mavericks, but if you rely on FCP then I'd be pretty careful and would not transition to it just yet.
