$1500 should be plenty for a great machine, especially if you already have monitors. Heres what id recommend

Either an intel i7 4930k six core or a 4770k quad for cpu
Corsair closed loop water cooling h100 or better (cheap and easy to install)
Asus motherboard for easy overclock
Gtx 580 3gb edition (better cuda performance than 780, and cheap)
32-64 gb ram - i use corsair vengeance 1800 MHz
1 250 gb ssd for os
2x 500 or 750 gb ssds in raid 0 for current projects
1 4 tb hdd for archive / storage

If you want it built for you I have used ironsidecomputers.com in the past, they do a great job without chargin too much over wholesale parts cost

Feel free to shoot me any questions

So, it's time for me to get a new workstation (PC) for my home office. Unfortunately I don't know what specs I need these days, and I would really appreciate some advice for the following:

- CPU/Motherboard - any particular models?
- Graphics card
- RAM - How much should I get (as much as possible I guess, but what would you recommend)?

My budget is somewhere around 1.500 USD, but it might need to get a bit higher? I'm thinking it's cheaper to build it myself, but I might be wrong about that.

Thanks for your help.
