On a Mac I've done this with Disk Utility without issue. Not sure of the equivalent app on Windows though. Only thing I had to do was to make sure the partition of the existing drive was the same size or smaller than the partition on the new SSD drive. I did this by cutting the existing drive down to almost just the system files whilst temporarily storing non essentials elsewhere. It's a straightforward process. Pretty sure you'll be blown away by the speed increase of your SSD.
