I do it weekly or semi-weekly. Two essential Mac utilities (IMO) are Drive Genius and Disk Warrior. Mac isn't as idiot-proof as it used to be. When I get odd OS behavior, which happens too often to suit me, I immediately boot off my clone, and run Disk Warrior. I run DW on all my drives weekly, whether I'm having problems or not. It detects problems I may not know I have. Since installing an SSD as a boot disk, I often get a message that "This disk can't be fixed by Disk Warrior." That's when I run a Rebuild using Drive Genius. Afterwards, Disk Warrior will repair the disk. Then, I'm back in business. For a while. You can also use Drive Genius to run other tests that may help you suss whether your disk is indeed going bad. If the above doesn't help, you may need to reinstall the OS. Or, do a clean install on a fresh drive, and migrate all your User files and apps to it. On Apr 12, 2014, at 7:50 AM, Robert W. Walker wrote: > Run a backup and clone right away if not done already.
