This can be very helpful for recovering data a from a damaged volume (should it ever happen); however, the directory structure information can take up a lot of disk space. *** I am remembering something about Verbose Logging Mode creating log files that grew to taking up a large amount of disk space, but that way years ago (like 2002-ish). I can't even remember how to check of it is on or off. *** Do you have Roxio Toast installed? An easy, non-Terminal way to reveal how much data each folder and file is taking up on your drive is to select Toast's Data tab and then drag and drop your boot drive into the Toast window. It will take Toast some time to build the information, but you will have a list of each folder on the drive with how much disk space each free is taking. For in stance, you can then troubleshoot why the "tmp" folder has 213GB in it instead of just KB worth of data.
