You're welcome, Anders.  You could put an arcing pattern on it by precomping it and using polar coordinates or Warp to bend it to make it look more like the motion you'd get from arm sweeping.

Sounds like a job for a gradient wipe.  There are likely some free gradient map textures out on the web that would look close enough.  I'll send a SD sized one off list.
