Sounds like a lot of CPU is going into Dynamic Linking and not rendering, no?

You can copy your sequence in Pr, and paste it into a same sized comp in Ae (or use the "Replace with Ae Composition" in Pr after selecting all your clips), and skip going back to Pr and Dynamic Link.

You can CC in Speed Grade, which has some new enhancements for going back and forth to Pr (and improvements on the way.  I have not gotten up to speed in SpeedGrade myself yet.).

However…

If you only need a "simple, fast colour grade," why not do it in Pr?  It has scopes and a variety of cc tools that are satisfactory, and CUDA accelerated if you have a qualified GPU.  I used to send most of my color work to Ae, mostly for the masking of secondaries, but I'm getting the hang of it in Pr, especially after I discovered the FREE CI Power Window plug for Pr.  You can render at high bit depth in Pr by Sequence Settings>Maximum Bit Depth and a similar switch in the Export window.

I generally only link to Ae now when I need a more advanced process like sky replacement, extreme contrast fixing by masking, tracking/roto.

I'm looking forward to the new mask tools in Pr, as it sounds like I'll have to use Ae less for advanced cc tricks.  Oh, and source side (clip based) color settings is very welcome news.
