Hi All,

A few weeks ago I learned how to use ExtendScript in order to automate a fairly complex task.

It was pretty daunting as there is so little information out there on how to 'get into' ExtendScript, but David Torno's tutorial series gave me the confidence to give it a go, and ultimately I achieved what I set out to do.

I'm so glad I did - since learning how to script in After Effects, I keep finding ways to use it to automate repetitive/boring tasks, and my reason for writing this message is purely to encourage anyone who's thought about learning how to write scripts to go ahead and give it a go - you'll be glad you did!

It's one of those things I wish I'd learned years ago - I could have saved countless hours of time over the years if I'd known how to write scripts in AE.

One thing I would say though, is that I have a web programming background, and therefore found it easy to write code in the Javascript-based ExtendScript.  If you have no programming experience it probably would be a bit of a leap to learn from scratch.  But if you're comfortable with programming I'm sure you'll find it quite straightforward.

You can find links to David's ExtendScript series on his blog here:  http://aeioweyou.blogspot.co.uk/

(And if you're not comfortable with programming, http://aescripts.com/ is the place to go for scripts that other people have written to achieve all kinds of useful things!)

Cheers,
Phil
